When Jen was a little, her family would travel from the Sierra Nevadas in California to the Eugene/Springfield area every summer to visit. She had extended family that all lived in town so year after year her family would spend two weeks with their Oregon relatives. One of her family’s favorite things to do was go up to Harrisburg to Detering Orchard to pick cherries and peaches. Only a 30 minute drive from Eugene/Springfield, it was easy to spend the day and you can imagine how much fruit they would take home.
Now that the Castile’s are married with two small kiddos, sharing Harrisburg and Detering Orchard with the kiddos has been a treat. They like to visit with the farm animals, take a tractor ride through the farm, pick pumpkins in the pumpkin patch, or buy fresh fruit and veggies from the stands.
Let’s not forget the fireworks on the 4th of July! Harrisburg does a great fireworks show on independence day. Every few years the Castile’s spend the 4th in Harrisburg with friends, barbecuing and watching the fireworks from their front lawn. It’s always worth the short trip up from Eugene.
